Norco is an abbreviation of "North Corona" and, as that implies, it lies just North of Corona in Riverside County, California. The city claims a population of about 25,000 according to the census taken in 2000.
The city has several things that are immediately noticeable on account of it being a horse community. The most obvious is that there are no sidewalks at all...only horse trails. Because of this most of the cities politics are concerned with horses and animal keeping vs suburbanization (this battle has played itself out specifically in relation to Norco Hills). Many people feel that the area's character is being jeopardized by the influx of people leaving Orange County to purchase the half-million dollars homes in the area---homes that have few if any provisions for horses or animals.
There are quite a few associations that are a part of the city, notably The Norco Horsemen's Association & The Norco Junior Horsemen's Association.
